X-ray results..

Well, the x-ray was unclear....it looks like it might be kyphosis. This is basically a curved back (looking at him from the side vs. scoliosis which is a curved back look from him straight on). The reason it *might* not be kyphosis is because it might have just been his positioning during the x-ray. He had a weird "muscle" type thing on the side of his spine that is much more pronounced when he is slouching. We have been working REALLY hard with sitting up straight. He is able to stand and sit up straight so his therapists and pediatrician are questioning whether it is truly an issue. We have to see an orthopedist at Children's sometime before his 2 year appointment (EEEKK!!! 2 years?!) so we can talk about their recommendations with his pediatrician. He is being fitted with orthotics by an orthopedist so I will ask him about his opinions on Monday.

J had his ISFP review yesterday with all of his therapists and they were wonderful. It can be very easy to feel overwhelmed and defeated during those meetings but I always feel so good about J and his progress when they leave. They have a way to put such a positive spin on things he is doing well and his next steps. This was probably the easiest and most uplifting IFSP meeting we have had so far. They are great therapists and obviously VERY good with what they do! His next one is in January and we will most likely be adding back in speech at that point. For now he is beginning to mimic more and his OT and PT can give me some ideas to help him with speech as he does more. Each day this kid is surprising me so it is really fun to see how much he is doing!

In other good news, federal funding will cover the copay cost of his orthotic!!!!! This was the BEST news since they can be about $200 per foot! We have to pay upfront but we will get reimbursed for it. If kids are not walking yet then they can pass the need for orthoitcs off as assisted needs therefore it is funded! Yay!!

I haven't yet found anyone to watch little man yet but I have a couple of good prospects so hopefully it will work out really soon and I will have a stable place for him to go on Monday when I start back at work again. :)
