Not much is new here. (silently cheering!!) We are all about as good as it gets! J started both occupational and speech therapy two weeks ago. I love both of the therapists and they really seem to be a good fit for him. It is reaffirming for me that some of his past therapists haven't been such a natural fit with J and with our family. The speech therapist has us doing exercises with him where he should be imitating the "m" sound. SO far he just looks at us and smiles or laughs. One of these days he will do it though-we know!
His occupational therapist said that he is grinding his teeth (lovely, I know) because it is his way to figure out where his head is in space. It is called his vestibular input. Apparently kids who are mobile at this time do so much moving around that their input his high but since it takes more work for J and he is limited in what he is doing-he loves to rock in his high chair and throw his head back for this reason. We have done lots of work on the exercise ball to help with his input. He loves to bounce in his bounce gym which also explains why he loves that thing so darn much!
He is beginning to stand up in the bouncy gym for a few seconds at a time which is really encouraging. He does it again and again so it wasn't just a fluke! (Whew!) We have known that he has so much leg strength but he isn't a fan of using it when he isn't feeling as supported (ie the bouncy gym). He doesn't like to feel like he is falling or slipping-he is very panic-y but he loves to be thrown up in the air...go figure!
We went to a birthday party for some friends yesterday and there were so many little kids J's age around. He was so intent on watching them all do their thing. He never cracked a smile. He seems to be a bit timid and shy in new situations. He doesn't seem to have too much stranger anxiety still which is great. He will let anyone hold him as long as we are within sight until he gets used to the person! :) What a trusting position he is in!
Our little eater is crazy! The only thing he will not eat is tomato sauce. He loves pesto (this was new) with cheese ravioli, graham crackers, and anything he can hold and feed himself. He still has a hard time getting his fingers out of the way to shove the food in but he is trying so much more and is successful sometimes! He wants whatever anyone is eating-he is very aware of what is going on around him! Now it's time to give him some spicier foods so he can get more used to our cooking!
He sure loves his dog, Bailey. Anything she does is hilarious to him. He loves when she puts toys near him, jumps up for toys, barks, and acts like her loving, licking self. As Bobby said, "Every boy needs a dog!" Bailey loves the attention too!
