Therapy updates

J's services were upped to 4 OT (occupational therapy) visits a month and 4 PT (physical therapy) visits a month too. Apparently they don't "do" 8 visits for a kid per month so I feel really lucky that they are able to make an exception for him and his needs. The finding was a little iffy but his service coordinator was able to make it work. I'm not a huge fan of her because in the past she hasn't been overly helpful but it sounds like she was one of the reasons he was able to get the services that he will be getting in April. Sadly his speech therapist isn't going to be working with him for the next 4 months or so until his speech needs increase. I am really bummed because she just clicked so well with J. They will reevaluate in July and consult her in the meantime if he shows sign of babbling and copying. She is pregnant and will be taking maternity leave around that time too so it is a double wammy.

So it is more of a time commitment for me to be home by 4:30 2 days a week but anything to help him out! It will be nice to have more consistency with OT. The OT thinks that he has more sensory issues than anyone has ever lead me to believe before. Between stuffing his mouth full of food (sensory kids don't get the signal that their cheeks are full of food), gagging himself with his fingers repeatedly, grinding his teeth (he does it a lot on days he doesn't get a lot of movement and "sensory input"), and sensitivity to temperatures-he has a lot going on with his sensory signals. She is going to work on getting some of his sensory issues worked out before we add back other services like speech.

They will be getting a pediatric foot doctor to come to the house soon and fit him for leg braces to help him stand for longer periods of time. Insurance pays for some of it but then we will be responsible for the copays-I am not sure what they means for us but Developmental Pathways (who he gets services from) will help pay for braces if they are the more expensive version ($1,000) before insurance help. Our job is to go find some supportive shoes. Up to this point his shoes have been for warmth and fashion (of course!) so it'll be interesting to see how he does when he has supportive shoes on all day. I guess that's all the news for now!
