Friends...

We had Alec over on Friday night for a play date (well, really it was for the adults). Jake was not so into hanging out with friends. He bawled and bawled when Alec was trying to give him a hug. Funny because he gets all excited before they come over and then he just freaks out. Alec is so sweet to Jake. "Come on Jake! Let's Play! Let's Go!" (Repeated about a thousand times!)

We had therapy on Monday and they will be putting a hinge in the AFO part of his orthotic. (This is the part that goes up his leg) He is doing a great job walking when he has the support and it forces him not to hyper-extend for support with walking. It is not easy for him and he gets tired really quickly but he takes the best steps and does most of the work himself. The Taos is not working really well right now so I am taking a little break-regrouping with the AFOs and getting him back to just moving around-not focusing on using the Taos, which he doesn't use correctly yet and he literally hates it. The hinges will allow him to get more movement when he is walking instead of walking like he is in a ski boot. It isn't pretty but it gets him from place to place. He stood by himself yesterday for about 3 seconds---the LONGEST time ever! Yay my man!

Today when I picked the man up from daycare I was talking to a little boy who was asking me questions about Jake and here is our conversation:

Boy: Why doesn't Jake talk?
Me: He does talk! I just don't know what he says sometimes. He says "Mama"
Jake: (Insert one of his "talking" noises)
Boy: Oooo! He just said hola!
Me: Wow! Yea, it sounded like it!
Boy: Why does he talk in Spanish?

Ha! I was cracking up! Maybe he is on to something-Jake is just talking in some language we can't figure out!  He says mama alllllll the time-it is just never, ever, ever for me! Mama means more, dad, Bailey, hug, up, kiss, etc. Never does it mean his actual mama. On the other hand, he will say "Bob bob bob bob bob bob bob" over and over. Strange. ;)
