We woke the babes up by singing to them and gave them each a happy birthday donut breakfast. Avery says "two" on command but she doesn't really understand what that means. We have a small celebration planned tomorrow and I can't help but think about how much can change in a year. Last year we were gearing up for a party and this year is just us-and it is perfect.
Avery has quite the personality. She is becoming much more opinionated about everything. We are learning how to pick our battles with her. She likes to help and so when she has a job (and she is in the mood to do it) she is so wonderful. She likes to throw things away, pick up toys, hug and kiss Jake and Brooklynn, "walk" the dog, and she is always the first to tell us about a mess or a sibling doing something they aren't supposed to be doing. She sounds like she is a rule follower but in reality she just likes to tell other people what to do. :) Avery likes to jump off everything. She loves to read books. She is obsessed with swings and will decide when she is done swinging (which has resulted in many trips to the park where we leave with a screamer). She is a snuggler. She pukers up her little lips and she just melts me. Often we can see her get in Brooklynn's face talking in her little words saying "Yea? K?" The jury is out on whether is is talking her into something good or mischievous. She LOVES her blankets. She calls them her "gigi". On any given night she will be holding three at a time. Her blankets are the one thing that she will not share with anyone. Just recently Avery pulled a pillow from my side of the bed and brought it to her room to sleep with. We found a pillow for her to have and she is happy as can be with a pillow now. She never moves around the crib anymore so we are on our way to a toddler bed at the beginning of the summer. Avery loves shoes. Loves loves shoes. SHe especially likes other people's shoes. She is my girl for sure. Avery has started to repeat everything that we say or the tone that we say it in-so the time has come to start really watching what we say. We heard "shut up" to the dog when she was barking the other day--oops! She is so smart and knows lots of body parts and animals. She is pretend playing which is just incredible to watch. Her favorite food is fruit snacks. She literally will NOT eat anything holding out for fruit snacks.
Brooklynn is our tiny pea. She is a big eater oddly enough-until she sees Avery is done and she has to be the exact same. Brooklynn is very sensitive. She will cry if you look at her the wrong way. She rarely goes to time out but when she does she puts herself there (it is quite funny!). Brooklynn is our funny one. She walks around the house giggling at everything. I whistled the other day and she whistled right back--odd! Brooks chats all day long...and is learning new words all the time. She is making more of an effort to repeat sounds that she hears. She is doing speech therapy on Wednesdays every week. Her speech therapist is BEYOND amazing. She is patient, kind, funny, smart, and came in day one like she lives with our family all the time. I just adore her. Brooklynn is becoming more comfortable with taking risks in new situations. At the park last week she climbed up bars and went down the biggest slide. She was terrified at first going down but then did it again and again. She likes a challenge! Brooklynn is obsessed with her monkey. She calls him "key". She will play with a diaper, wipe, and her monkey for an hour straight. She is a little mommy. Both girls love to play with babies-they wipe faces, give kisses, and tuck their babies in with wash cloths-but Brooks is much more into playing mommy than Avery. She runs everywhere and you would never know that she was once behind her sister physically. Brooklynn is content with any shoes and any type of clothing-but she strips her clothes off when she sees her sister do the same thing. Monkey see, monkey do. She is much more easy going and mellow in general about most things. She is a snuggler and really loves her daddy most of all.
Avery was 24 pounds and Brooklynn was 20.4 pounds at their 2 year appointment. The best news was that they didn't have any shots! Check ups are the best when shots aren't involved. This year the girls have been relatively healthy (especially compared to last year!) and so we haven't been to the doctor too often. Brooklynn has some mild eczema but other than that, we got the go ahead to keep doing what we are doing. I am truthfully not ready to have them give up the bottle. They are still drinking a bottle in the morning, for nap, and at night. They drink water the rest of the day and because they are still small I am not pushing getting rid of something that works for us.
We have big things coming up the first couple weeks of summer-I am feeling lofty with my goals of toddler beds and potty training all at once. Luckily the girls are very interested in the potty-and have peed on it several times-I just need to be able to give the time to be consistent with them. Along with Jake, these two are the loves of our life. They are just what we needed to spice up our family. They are both so different but such compliments to each other and our family. The are darn fun to watch, play with, and be around. I can't wait to see what the next year brings.

Birthday princesses
The only way I could get out of the pharmacy (emergency stop for diapers and wipes!) and get to their 2 year appointment was to buy some mini magna doodles-and lollipops and Chapstick-I swear they put everything at mini height so the parents buy more crap...and apparently it worked with us!
On Saturday it was too cold to use one of their birthday presents-a year membership to the zoo-so we went to Petsmart instead. Just as good-eye level-and warm! They both picked out their own presents at Toys R Us-for the first and last time. Remind me NEVER to bring our kids to the toy store again. I am surprised we made it out alive! Not surprising-the girls both picked out a baby they wanted. Brooklynn saw her baby and there was no question that was the one she wanted. Then she saw a monkey 4 times her size and also wanted that. Good thing we stuck to our ground and didn't buy a bunch of extra crap. Avery saw the baby she wanted-wayyyyyyy up high. They both love their baby and don't mix up who picked out which baby.
They also got a wagon to use too! They love to sit in it and push/strain!
